1. Basketball Used to Be Played with a Soccer Ball
Back in the early days of basketball, there were no official basketballs. Players used a soccer ball instead! Can you imagine trying to dribble something that doesn’t even bounce right? No wonder dribbling wasn’t a big part of the game back then.
2. The NBA Didn’t Have a Shot Clock at First
Before the shot clock was introduced in 1954, teams could hold onto the ball for as long as they wanted. Some games ended with scores like 19–18 because teams just passed the ball around to waste time. The shot clock fixed that and made games way more exciting!
3. The Tallest and Shortest NBA Players Ever Played Together
In the 1987-88 season, Manute Bol, who was 7’7” tall, and Muggsy Bogues, who was 5’3”, were teammates on the Washington Bullets. The height difference between them was over 2 feet! Watching them on the court together must’ve been wild.
4. Michael Jordan Wasn’t Always Number 23
MJ is known for his iconic #23 jersey, but did you know he once wore #12? It happened on Valentine’s Day in 1990 when his jersey was stolen before the game. The team didn’t have a spare #23, so he had to wear a nameless #12 jersey instead.
5. Shaq Made Only One Three-Pointer in His Entire Career
Shaquille O’Neal is one of the most dominant centers in NBA history, but shooting threes? Not his thing. In 19 seasons, he attempted 22 three-pointers and made just one. Guess you can’t have it all, even if you’re Shaq!
